Donovan McNabb Says Black Dogfighters Are More Criticized

PHILADELPHIA – Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb has gone deep again. His target this time is the perceived inequality in the treatment of white and black dogfighters.

“Black dogfighters get criticized far more often than white dogfighters do,” Mr. McNabb told Philadelphia Inquirer columnist David Aldridge.

“You saw what happened to Michael Vick. If that had been Tom Brady, who’s whiter than Mel Gibson’s ass, the press wouldn’t have paid no mind; but let a black guy kick it with a few of his buddies and all hell breaks loose.”

Mr. McNabb’s comments came just days after his controversial interview with James Brown had aired on HBO’s Real Sports. In that interview Mr. McNabb declared, “Black quarterbacks have to go the extra mile just to bevel the playing field.” He also suggested that the press is out to get O.J. Simpson because “white women are all over him like Astroglide.”

This turn toward militancy, like Mr. McNabb’s shaved head, has taken some people by surprise.

“Donovan was never the sharpest spear in the quiver,” said a former teammate who did not wish to be identified for fear of being labeled a racist, “but he didn’t seem to mind being Jeffrey Lurie’s lawn jockey—or acting like Steve Urkle’s older brother in soup commercials. Apparently something has changed.”

"Did I say that?"
Eagles coach, Andy Reid, thinks he knows what that something is.

“Put the blame on me for not putting Donovan in a situation where he could succeed verbally,” said Mr. Reid. “That’s something we need to work on before his next interview, and we will.”
